The world’s fastest-growing sport touches down in Glasgow with three new padel courts opening TODAY at Golf It! – The R&A’s family entertainment attraction and community hub serving up accessible sporting fun.
Game4Padel, the UK’s leading padel operator backed by Andy, Jamie and Judy Murray, installed the courts in partnership with The R&A.
The glass-walled padel courts are floodlit and covered by a canopy meaning play can continue into the evening and even during a Glaswegian downpour.
Padel is known for its mental as well as physical benefits, is easy to learn and quick to master. No previous racket experience is needed, it can be played by all ages and is popular with families.
Padel is a new sport but has similarities to both squash and tennis – so should feel comfortable for newcomers quickly. It’s something anyone can pick up and play immediately, so go for it!
Anyone can play now on the padel courts by simply booking via the Golf It! website or the Game4Padel website. An open day will take place for those wanting to try out the sport on 16th / 17th March with free coaching clinics and trial sessions – more on that soon.
Jamie Murray said: “It’s great that padel has made it to Glasgow. I first played padel when I was in Spain and it’s a brilliant game. I think the social side of it will really appeal to people here. I encourage everyone to give it a go”.
Golf It! opened in August as part of an ambitious project led by The R&A to attract a broader player base to the sport of golf, by making it more welcoming for people of all ages and backgrounds.
As well as the padel courts, Golf It! features shorter form golf courses, an indoor games room, three outdoor adventure golf courses, a 52-bay double decker floodlit driving range, walking and cycling trails around the Seven Lochs Wetland Park, an extensive café, retail space and a nursery.
